Elementary Principal's Welcome
Welcome to the Elementary School of the Danube International School, Vienna (DISV)! Our Elementary School offers a rich curriculum where children experience a joyful learning environment that encourages inquiry, creativity, self-advocacy, critical thinking, as well as social and emotional development.
Academic excellence through education of the whole child is reflected in our carefully designed curriculum as well as daily practices. We believe children’s emotional, social, cognitive and physical needs are of importance and must have shared attention in planning for development and growth. Both inside and outside of the classroom, individual interests – athletic, artistic, service, academic or performance-based – can be explored through our PYP curriculum and a comprehensive activities program designed to enhance students’ learning experience. Elementary age children learn through active engagement, asking questions, exploring, and creating. Providing students with rich and engaging learning experiences ensures that every student reaches his or her highest potential. Our carefully designed curriculum focuses on intellectual, social, emotional, physical and artistic growth with the understanding that each child learns and develops in his or her own way. In our school, the child is at the center of the educational process and our international curriculum is based on this philosophy.
We believe that it is important to provide students with hands-on learning experiences which encourage creative thinking, inquiry, and strong interpersonal skills. Through our IB Primary Years Program our students gain knowledge and learn to apply critical thinking skills, to innovate and to communicate with others. Our program emphasizes personal qualities such as integrity, honesty, open-mindedness, respect, compassion and empathy. We strive to develop the natural curiosity of learners by actively helping them to acquire the skills of inquiry and research; thus, supporting students in becoming independent learners who are intrinsically motivated and able to make responsible decisions following through on their individual interests.
As a community, we know that strong, positive home/school partnerships are the key to each child’s success as well as joy in learning and we work in partnership with parents to ensure each child flourishes and grows to his or her full potential. We value open communication which we know is an essential component of these partnerships.
We invite you to visit us to see this amazing learning community in action. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. We would enjoy the opportunity to speak to you personally about your child’s educational needs and aspirations.
We look forward to meeting you soon,
Ms. Keitsa Brisson
