IB

PYP Programme (5-11 Years)

At DISV, our Elementary school offers an engaging, inquiry-driven approach to teaching and learning, anchored in the globally recognised IB Primary Years Programme (PYP).

A Strong Sense of Belonging

Every child is a valued member of a homeroom class. This space is the heart of their school day, fostering strong, nurturing relationships with their dedicated teachers, learning assistants and classmates.

Here, students learn to contribute to a genuine community of belonging and learning.

Building Strong Foundations for Lifelong Learning

Curiosity, Creativity, and Confidence

At Danube International School Vienna, we believe in educating the whole child — nurturing curiosity, creativity, and confidence in every learner.

Foundational literacy and numeracy skills are developed in dynamic classroom settings, while inquiry-based and play-based learning make abstract ideas tangible and engaging.

Outdoor education also plays an important role, connecting classroom learning to the natural world. Throughout the grades critical thinking, collaboration, and communication are taught and encouraged in all lessons.

Our curriculum skillfully blends

Concepts, Skills, and Attitudes

the core elements of the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP).

Action and Responsibility

empowering students to apply their learning in meaningful ways.

Exposure to Traditional Subjects and Concepts

ensuring a strong academic foundation across all disciplines.

In the Elementary School, our focus is on building essential academic confidence.

Our daily differentiated German language lessons ensure every student progresses at their own pace — whether they are complete beginners or native speakers. Students learn in small, separate groups, allowing instruction to be tailored precisely to their language level. These lessons are taught by highly qualified native German teachers, providing authentic language learning experiences that support both language acquisition and cultural understanding within our vibrant international community.

In addition to their core homeroom and German times, our students also engage with highly qualified specialist teachers for diverse subjects, including music, physical education (PE) and library skills.

By Grade 5, our students are confident, capable, and compassionate learners — ready for a seamless transition into Middle School, equipped with the academic strength, social awareness, and emotional maturity to thrive.
