IB

DP Programme (16-19 Years)

The IB Diploma Programme (DP) at DISV challenges students aged 16–19 to excel academically, think independently, and prepare for success at university and beyond.

The IB Diploma Programme (DP) at Danube International School Vienna is an academically rigorous and internationally recognised qualification for students in grades 11 and 12.

The programme has a balance of 6 subjects and the core of the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS). Universities prefer IBDP students, who can work independently and are critical thinkers able to research, analyze, evaluate and apply their knowledge and skills in new situations.

We generally have a cohort of between 50 and 60 students in each year of the DP, which allows us to offer a wide range of subjects whilst maintaining individual care, with a current average class size of 11 students.

Grounded in inquiry and reflection, the DP challenges students to think critically, communicate effectively, and act ethically in a global context.

Every student and their family has an individual meeting with the IBDP Coordinator to discuss their subject choices and ensure they fit the student’s strengths and plans for future study.

Our teachers are experienced professionals, including IB examiners, with a passion for their subject who inspire their students to become lifelong learners.

The curriculum is enriched by visits and guest speakers. A few examples include our German B HL students, who reached the Vienna final of the ORF’s Sag’s Multi competition. The geography class travelled to Barcelona to collect data on tourism. Biology students conducted genetic engineering experiments at the Vienna Open Lab and art students visited the Venice Biennale for inspiration.

Strong individual support throughout the programme ensures that no student falls through the net and is the secret behind our 100% pass rate in most years.
